Your baby has been crying on and off
all day. You wonder if he is sick or
unhappy. And, you wonder why you can’t
seem to soothe him, while other moms
seem to have it all under control.
Days
pass and you seem to get nothing done.
The laundry is piling up, emails go
unanswered, and some days it seems hard
to even fit in having a shower. You
wonder what happened to the organized,
efficient woman you were just a few
months ago.
You’re going back to work in two weeks
and you are putting your baby in
daycare. Other new moms are shocked by
your choice, voicing concerns about
germs, safety, and the importance of the
bond between moms and their babies. You
begin to wonder whether they are all
right, and you have made a terrible
decision.
While you adore your beautiful new baby,
some days, you just don’t enjoy being a
new mom. You wonder how you can think
this way. After all, you’ve wanted a
baby your whole life.

My name is Dr. Deborah Ledley and I
have started TheCalmMom.com to help women who
are experiencing all of the normal “ups and
downs” of being new moms. As a new mom myself,
these thoughts are familiar to me. Furthermore,
as a licensed psychologist and a well-known
expert in the treatment of anxiety and stress, I
am in a unique position to offer new moms
effective strategies for adjusting to this
wonderful, yet daunting new role in their lives.
As a new mom, I realized that there is a lot
of information out there on new babies, but
virtually nothing to help new moms like us.
I also recognized that there is a lot of
pressure to only tell people the “good stuff”
about being a new mom (and there is a lot of
good stuff so it’s easy to stop there!). What
we’re nervous to talk about is the stressful
stuff. Keeping the stressful stuff to ourselves
causes more stress! We end up feeling alone,
ashamed, and different.
On the other hand, when we’re open about our
experiences, we learn valuable skills that can
help us adjust to this exciting, but sometimes
overwhelming time. I created TheCalmMom.com to
help women like you take the stress out of being
a new mom so you can focus on the fun,
excitement, and wonder of having a new baby.
While you’re here, I invite you to explore
the resources on this site, including:
